Abstract 1-Methyl-3,6,8-trinitro-2-quinolone was found to be a suitable substrate for electrophilic arylation on benzene rings leading to (1,2-dihydro-4-quinolyl)phenols. The resultant products constitute a new family of 1-methyl-2-quinolones, which is often found in biologically active compounds as a partial structure.
