EDFA noise figure degradation caused by amplifiedsignal double Rayleigh scattering in erbium dopedfibres

Abstract

For the first time, an EDFA noise figure increase caused by amplified signal double Rayleigh scattering in erbium doped fibres has been measured. The results can be explained by a model that takes into account incoherent and coherent mixing of the directly and doubly backscattered fraction of the signal light.
