It is argued that the charge dependence of the nuclear force (${V}_{\mathrm{nn}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\ne}}{V}_{\mathrm{np}{}^{s}}}$) can be accounted for exactly in triton binding energy calculations to first order in the difference ${V}_{\mathrm{nn}\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}{V}_{\mathrm{np}{}^{s}}}$ by replacing the $^{1}\mathrm{S}_{0}$ interaction by the potential combination (2/3${V}_{\mathrm{nn}+\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}1)\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}/\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}3\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}{V}_{\mathrm{np}{}^{s}}}$. .AE
