Abstract

This paper describes the three methods of applying static electricity in the production of parts to which it is required to apply liquid coating. Development of these processes has led to their commercial application, in the first case by the introduction of particles of coating material atomized by compressed air into an electrostatic field; in the second case by the removal of surplus coating material from parts coated by dipping; in the third case by direct application of the coating material atomized and deposited by electrostatic force. The principles of these three processes are described and also mechanical and electrical arrangements for their application to commercial production. Finally some details are given of the types of production at present being handled and a summary of the results achieved by way of coating material savings.
