Abstract

Far infra-red measurements on solutions of iodine in benzene, in dioxan and in carbon disulphide and of bromine in carbon disulphide are reported. The intensity of the absorptions is adequately explained by induced dipole moments produced during intermolecular collisions in solution without the need to postulate “charge-transfer” interactions.
