Abstract

Retroviruses are a family of animal viruses with an RNA genome which replicate through a DNA intermediate. These viruses are widely distributed in vertebrates, and some have been found to be associated with neoplasia. In addition, some retroviruses, the so-called endogenous viruses, are also transmitted vertically integrated with germ-line chromosomal DNA.
