Abstract

Fifteen cases of canalicular obstruction associated with nasolacrimal duct block were repaired by silicone intubation of the obstructed canaliculi and dacryocystorhinostomy. Epiphora was relieved in all cases as long as the silicone tubing remained in the canaliculi. In seven out of eight patients from whom tubes were removed complete freedom from epiphora persisted. Silicone intubation was of particular value in treating pediatric canalicular obstructions. The procedure is simple to perform and offers encouraging results in the surgical management of canalicular obstructions.
