Myoglobinuria Precipitated by Viral Infection

Abstract

A 30-year-old man had an episode of acute myoglobinuria in association with infection due to type A2 (Hong Kong) influenza virus in December 1968. He was well until he again experienced myoglobinuria in July 1972. This episode was in association with a coxsackievirus B5 infection. The occurrence of two separate instances of myoglobinuria with demonstrated virus infections is interpreted as clear evidence that virus infections can precipitate rhabdomyolysis.
