Abstract

The ASTRID storage ring was built about 20 years ago and was uniquely designed to operate as a storage ring for both ions and electrons. The ring was used for alternating ion and electron storage until about five years ago when ion experiments moved to a newly built electrostatic ion ring. Since then, ASTRID has been in constant use as a synchrotron light source, operating with 580 MeV electrons.
