Abstract

Despite marked advances in obstetric-pediatric care, meconium aspiration syndrome remains a problem, with many cases related to intrauterine aspiration. Among the factors which may be implicated are oligohydramnios and vagal stimulation from cord compression, factors which may be alleviated by saline amnioinfusion during labor. In addition, the dilution of the thick meconium may decrease the effects of meconium aspiration. These concepts were assessed in the reported study.
