Abstract Nineteen cases with fracture subulxation of the fifth carpo-metacarpal joint have been reviewed. Of fourteen cases treated by early mobilisation reviewed more than two years after their fracture only one had significant pain. Although there are some cases with prolonged but usually mild symptoms following this fracture-subluxation, it is doubtful whether surgical treatment is necessary.
