ABSTRACT n-octyl-3-pyridine carboxylate (NOPC), an analogue of the commercial reagent DS5443, was synthesized, and the stoichiometry of its reaction with copper(II) in chloride media was determined. At low metal loadings, copper(II) was extracted by the solvation reaction: The factors affecting the separation of iron and copper from solutions containing copper(II),iron(II), and zinc(II)chlorides were determined in countercurrent extraction tests using DS5443.
