Observations are presented on the ac magnetization of Nb-25% Zr and Nb-48% Ti wires in a longitudinal field Hz0. When Hz0 is higher than the field induced by the impressed ac conduction current, the magnetization data agree with the calculation based on a force-free model. The magnetization process of Nb–Zr shows a large deviation from the usual critical state behavior.
