Synthesis of 1-Methyl-2-(2-pyridyl)-nitroimidazoles

Abstract

The syntheses of 1-methyl-2-(2-pyridyl)-4-nitroimidazole (1), 1-methyl-2-(2-pyridyl)-5-nitroimidazole (2), and 1-methyl-2-(2-pyridyl) -4,5-dinitroimidazole (3) in moderate to good yield are described. The structures of these compounds are established by elemental analyses and spectroscopic methods.
