Abstract

Stationary behavior is investigated by plotting the stationary polarization curves (I,V) and by examination of the dissolution morphology with scanning microscopy. It is shown that in 4 M deaerated HCl, the TU2 alloy dissolves more rapidly than the unalloyed titanium T40, whereas the TA6V alloy dissolves less rapidly. The dissolution and the passivation of these various materials can be described by the same reaction model, one which implies two electrochemical and two chemical reactions. It is established that the presence of alloying elements and the modification of the texture modify certain reaction rates of the model considered.
