Abstract The influence of the d electrons on the structure factor, entropy, and heat capacity of liquid noble metals is analyzed. This is done by using the generalized orthogonalized plane wave (OPW) and resonant model potential (RMP) approaches in connection with the optimized random phase approximation technique. The results of the OPW and RMP equally well compare to the data on Cu and Ag. In the case of gold, only very qualitative OPW results are obtained.
