A blue electroluminescent polymer containing 9,10-diphenylanthracenevinylenephenylene and alkylene block in the main chain was prepared by the Wittig reaction. A single-layer electroluminescent device was fabricated by spin casting a solution of the novel polymer onto glass substrates coated with a pattern indium tin oxide (ITO). A bluish white luminescence was obtained from the device using aluminum as the cathode contact with intensities in the range of 45−80 cd/m2 and external quantum efficiency of 0.01%.
