A Four‐Step Synthesis of 1‐Deoxynojirimycin with a Biotransformation as Cardinal Reaction Step

Abstract

A quantitative and selective oxidation using Gluconobacter oxydans is the key step in a synthesis of 1-deoxynojirimycin (1) starting from glucose; derivatives of (1) are of interest as inhibitors of intestinal α-glucosidases in the treatment of carbohydrate-dependent metabolic disorders.
