Abstract

The fish anaesthetic tricaine methanosulfate destroyed the cilia on olfactory sensory epithelia of channel catfish, when fish were exposed to tranquilizing doses of the drug. Cilia on the non sensory epithelium appeared to be unaffected by multiple exposures of the drug. Sensory cilia regenerated within 28 days after exposure.
