Abstract

Complexation with (arene)ruthenium(II) units converts calix-arenes into suitable host compounds for anions. The hexacat-ion composed of calixarene 1 with four (p-cymene)Ru fragments bound to the phenyl groups can complex a BF ion, as demonstrated by X-ray structure analysis. The BF ion is found deep within the host cavity.
