The urban breeding bird community of Tornio, near the Arctic Circle, is as dense as in many, though not all, Central European towns and cities. The urban parts of the town support 65–76 pairs/10 ha. The dominant species are mostly typical of Central Europe, including the House Sparrow, Swift and Feral Pigeon, but there are certain peculiarities, the abundance of the Field fare being the most important.
