A facile chemical polymerization is introduced to synthesize relatively long polyaniline nanofibers/nanotubes via self-assembly. 1-D elongation is achieved through the rapid formation of a substantial amount of dimer cation−radicals using excess initiator. 1-D nanostructures can be altered into 3-D hollow micro-/nanospheres in the presence of surfactant or counterion additives.
