Similarity Solutions of a Generalized Burgers Equation

Abstract

The similarity method is applied to a generalized Burgers equation which has been applied to shock waves and to sound waves. Three different cases of the equation, each allowing a three-parameter symmetry group, are found. The corresponding reduction to an ordinary differential equation is given. The Lie algebras of the groups are identified with standard types given by Bianchi.
