Abstract

Comparative investigations of water conditioning in terms of the boron content under dynamic conditions have been performed using synthetic organic sorbents (Amberlite IRA-743 and SB-1) and inorganic sorbent (hydrated zirconium dioxide). Sorbent Amberlite IRA-743 of N-methyl-glucamine type was shown to be the most promising for boron extraction and the disposal of regenerating solutions aimed at preventing their harmful effect on the environment. A significant rise of the efficiency of boron sorption from the real water of the Black Sea using this sorbent as compared to the boron sorption from the solution modeling the permeate of reverse osmosis plants has been detected that is determined by the salting-out effect of Mg2+ ions present in sea water on the sorption process.
