Is there a critical period for the acquisition of segmental analysis?

Abstract

Twelve Portuguese illiterate adults were required to delete the initial consonant of a spoken pseudoword and were provided with both explicit instructions and continuous corrective feedback. Nine of them displayed rapid improvements in performance.
