Abstract In this study, warp tension in shedding operation is determined by fuzzy logic. Fuzzy model is established according to shedding height and weft yarn density and elasticity, the most effective parameters on warp yarn tension variation in the shedding operation. Expert knowledge and results of recent experiments are used in the determination of membership functions and their relationship rules between effective parameters. According to the results obtained from the test of the designed model, shedding height is found to be the most effective parameter on warp tension (up to 55 cN). It is also found that weft yarn density is not as effective as shedding height. Increase of 15% in warp yarn tension has been determined to be due to decrease in yarn elasticity. This study concludes that it is possible to control a weaving loom by using fuzzy logic.
