<mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mml:mi>E</mml:mi><mml:mn>2</mml:mn><mml:mn/></mml:math>Isovector Giant Resonance as Seen through the Capture of Fast Neutrons

Abstract

The forward-to-backward asymmetry of high-energy photons emitted in the radiative capture of neutrons with energies up to 20 MeV was measured for $^{208}\mathrm{Pb}$. The asymmetry increases abruptly from small values to large ones near ${E}_{\ensuremath{\gamma}}\ensuremath{\sim}23$ MeV supporting the location in that neighborhood of the $E2$ giant isovector resonance.
