Low-Temperature Synthesis of La<sub>2</sub>CuO<sub>4</sub> with the T‘-Structure from Molten Hydroxides

We have successfully synthesized well-crystallized bulk samples of La2CuO4 with the Nd2CuO4-type structure by the direct precipitation from the molten KOH/NaOH eutectic mixture including La2O3 and Cu powders at a temperature as low as 350 °C in flowing Ar gas. This result contrasts strikingly with La2CuO4 with the K2NiF4-type structure synthesized by the conventional solid-state reaction method at about 1000 °C.
