A guided-mode resonance filter (GMRF) has been widely studied for an optical wavelength filter because of its great advantage in mass production in comparison with multilayer dielectric mirrors. However, GMRF needs a large aperture to provide high reflectivity. The integration of a cavity resonator consisting of a pair of distributed Bragg reflectors was proposed and discussed to miniaturize a GMRF aperture. A filter operating at 1531 nm wavelength was designed, and its performance was predicted by the use of a newly developed analysis model. The filter was fabricated and a narrow reflection bandwidth was demonstrated experimentally.
