High-Power Yb-Doped Double-Clad Fiber Laser Directly Operating at 1178 nm

Abstract

We report successful operation of Yb-doped fiber laser at an important wavelength of 1178 nm. By optimizing the small-signal gain and Q-value, the output power amounts to 6.5 W with 50 dB suppression ratio against amplified spontaneous emission.
