An ecological intervention program for children, which includes family involvement, is described. The influence of the family over the course of the treatment is assessed via a stage model. Quality of family functioning prior to and during initial stages of intervention contributed significantly to child and family adjustment. The importance of seriously addressing the family when offering services to children in distress is emphasized.
