Necessary and Sufficient Conditions for a Local Minimum. 1: A Reduction Theorem and First Order Conditions

Abstract

A new approach to the theory of necessary conditions is described. The core of the approach is a reduction theorem which replaces the initial constrained problem by a problem without constraints having the same solution. After this, the procedure for deriving first order necessary conditions becomes almost trivial, which is demonstrated by several examples.
