Abstract

A mathematical theory of unascertained rational numbers is introduced to study subjective uncertain information, whose uncertainty is mainly from the subjective ignorance of the decision maker who employs the available information. Comparisons with the real number system and the concept of probability distributions are made. At the end, two practical problems, one about decision-making and the other about investing in stocks, are worked out to test the usefulness of this new theory.
