An example drawn from fleet air defense illustrates the use of a very simple device which simulates the physical situation to be analyzed in the task of constructing a mathematical model of the situation. Such a simulator is also helpful in explaining the results of the analysis to the people for whom they are intended and in estimating the errors introduced by various computational approximations.
