the process is fundamental and occurs to some extent at all stages of deformation. No evidence of spontaneous recrystallisation after rolling was found for any specimen, nor was there any evidence of self-recovery in copper specimens. Thus the texture formed in these metals during or immediately after deformation at room temperature is quite stable, in sharp contrast to the behaviour of the softer metals which are to be discussed in the next paper.
