Abstract

The influence offrusemide on haemodynamic, electrocardiographic, and symptomatic response to exercise was studied in 19 patients with documented coronary artery disease. During the control exercise period all patients experienced angina and showed ST segment depression, accompanied by raised pulmonary artery wedge pressures (PWP). In 12 of these patients 40 mg frusemide was adminis- tered intravenously and in the other seven patients 40 mg frusemide was given orally. After significant diuresis (>400 ml), the exercise test was repeated. Data were collected at the same exercise work load and duration as had been achieved before frusemide.
