Efficient families of ratio and product-type estimators

Abstract

This paper proposes two-parameter families of ratio-type and product-type estimators for a finite population mean based on simple random samples of observations on the variable of interest and a concomitant variable. Using some prior information it is shown that the families contain estimators which have in practical situations lower mean squared error than the usual ratio, product and sample mean estimators.
