AbstractAbstractAlloy APK1, a low-carbon-content Ni–Cr–Co–base alloy for gas turbine engines, is being produced by inert gas atomizing and hot isostatic pressing. The PM production route has a number of technical and economic advantages over the conventional cast/wrought route. The fully integrated atomizing and hot isostatic pressing plant described is capable of producing as-compacted superalloy shapes in metallic containers, limited only by the press working zone of 483 mm dia. × 1650 mm long. After determination of argon content, compacts have been heat-treated and tested. Tensile, stress rupture, and low cycle fatigue properties at temperatures up to 730°C compare favourably with the properties of a number of conventionally produced disc alloys.
