Abstract 4 - (3, 5-dichloro-2-pyridylazo) - 1, 3-diaminobenzene (3, 5-Cl-PADAB) is proposed as a very sensitive and selective reagent for the spectrophotometric determination of trace amounts of Pd (II) ion. The coloured complex is very stable even in the strong hydrochloric acid. The colour system conforms to Beer's law over the range of 5.00 × 10−7 - 1.25 × 10−5M of Pd (II) ion (corresponding to 0.05 - 1.33 ppm). The method offers the advantages of simplicity, high precision and requires no extraction.
