Controlled Synthesis of a New, Soluble, Conjugated Metallopolymer Containing Ruthenium Chromophoric Units

Abstract

The synthesis and electrochemical and photophysical characterization of monomeric, dimeric, and polymeric polypyridyl ruthenium(II) complexes of the novel conjugated polymer system poly[1-(2,2‘-bipyridine-4-yl)-1,4-diazabutadiene-4,4‘-diyl] (polyazabpy) are described. The polyazabpy system differs from other metalated polymeric systems described in the literature because of its solubility in organic solvents and synthetic versatility and control.
