Photoeffects on the Eye

Abstract

A number of conferences and workshops in recent years have highlighted the growing interests of vision researchers in the role played by radiation on the integrity of ocular tissues. We review the clinical manifestations and discuss the basic research presently being carried out, with special emphasis on the photochemical events believed to contribute to lenticular and retinal alterations. The clinical battery of tests presently available is discussed in relation to pathologic and toxicologic entities encountered in practice. We hope that greater attention will be given to the early detection of photorelated visual dysfunctions.
