Abstract We report measurements of the equilibrium concentration and of the elastic modulus for polystyrene networks containing controlled amounts of pendent chains that have been swollen in benzene and cyclohexane. The results are compared with the predictions of the classical theory of rubber elasticity and of a new approach based on an analogy with semidilute solutions.
