The phonon dispersion curves or TiC0.95 at room temperature have been measured by inelastic neutron scattering in the main symmetry directions. Additional measurements have been performed on a sample of lower carbon content, i.e. TiC0.89. The measured phonons are well reproduced within the framework of a shell model with free electron screening. The authors results confirm the correlation between the lattice dynamics and the formal valence of the metal atom found on other transition metal carbides.
