Abstract The concept of loving one's neighbor is a commonality between major world religions. However, recent studies, as well as increases in religiously-motivated global violence, point to the fact that religious believers tend to lack charity in their attitudes toward those who are different from them. In one study, church attendance wasactually shown to decrease tolerance. Doors may be starting to open to faith-based participation in international affairs, but faith-based communities may not yet be prepared to be good global neighbors.
