Excavation has been carried out at Khirbat Faris since 1988. This second preliminary report focuses on the excavation of and around one of the standing buildings on the site (House 2), which was completed in 1991. Particular attention is paid to the excavated architecture and ceramics which range in date from the Nabataean to the Ottoman periods and which represent the material culture and occupational variation of the site. A distinction is drawn between occupation involving the construction of buildings de novo, ‘constructional occupation’ and occupation involving the reuse and modification of existing structures.
