Abstract

Our data suggest that alpha-adrenoceptor mechanisms contribute to stump pain, possibly associated with neuromas in amputees. Sympathectomy and adrenergic blockade should be explored in controlled clinical trials as therapeutic options in patients with postamputation pain.
