Stepwise complexation: A green copper-based metallo-supramolecular polymer was successfully synthesized through complexation of CuII ions with new bis(1,10-phenanthroline) ligands. The obtained polymer showed an excellent electrochromic color change from green to colorless upon electrochemical reduction of CuII to CuI.
