Smooth Muscle Stimulating Lipids in Peripheral Lymph after Experimental burn injury

Abstract

AbstractThe presence of smooth muscle stimulating activity in peripheral dog lymph was studied before and after scalding of the paw. Efflux of material active on isolated guinea pig ileum, rat uterus, rat colon and rat fundus strip was observed after but not before scalding. The spasmogenic substance (s) was not identical with acetylcholine, histamine, bradykinin or serotonin. The type of smooth muscle contraction (“slow reacting”) and the finding that the activity was associated with the lipid fraction of lymph suggests that it might be due to prostaglandins.
