Treatment of refractory obesity with fenfluramine.

Abstract

Fenfluramine hydrochloride (Ponderax) is a recently marketed appetite-depressant. Although it has some chemical resem- blance to the amphetamines, it is not metabolized by the body to produce amphetamine and is excluded from the Drugs (Pre- vention of Misuse) Act, 1964. We report the results of a 12- weeks double-blind clinical trial of this drug in a group of women having refractory obesity.
