The kinetics in diglyme are reported for the two reactions of [Et 4 N][M(CO) 5 X] with aryl phosphines to form cis-[Et 4 N][PR 3 M(CO) 4 X] and PR 3 M(CO) 5 where M = Cr, Mo, or W, X = Cl, Br, or I, and [Formula: see text] (p-FC 6 H 4 ) 3 P, or (p-ClC 6 H 4 ) 3 P. The reactions of cis-[Et 4 N][PR 3 M(CO) 4 X] with excess phos-phine to form (PR 3 ) 2 M(CO) 4 have also been studied kinetically. Possible mechanisms for these three types of reactions are discussed.
